Land

Welcome to our farm. Here, we would like to give a general overview of some of the things that we are doing. We currently have a composition of various elements such as: beekeeping, berms and swales, intensive grazing, hügelkultur, keylines, companion planting; to name a few.

Beekeeping

As of mid-2018, we started our bee hives. We have constructed different homes for the three different types of bees that we find here in Central Texas. These bees consist of forager bees, which do not produce honey but will constantly be our pollinating plants and reproducing, rain or shine, hot or cold (to a degree); bumble bees, the bigger, bulkier bees; and of course, the honey bees.

Earthworks

This picture of our property in early 2017 shows the beginnings of the earthworks. The keylines along with the berms and swales were all dug along the contours of the land. The reason for this is because it allows water to be captured and/or moved to critical areas of our farm where we know that it's use will be maximized. This can be to redirect the water to a pond, for example, or it may also be used to hold or slow the runoff for the trees to have water for a week or two after a rain rather than for a few hours or a couple of days.

Please take a look at our video to see a clearer depiction of the earthworks and its function.
